Tell her for the baby shower that you want to do everything she has planned BUT you also want to do some of your stuff you and your friends want to do. You could also get ahold of all of your friends on your own and tell them hey bring the stuff for the basket and diaper thing. You probably will never have enough diapers and if you do you can always take an unopened package back to the store and exchange it for bigger ones in the future. And let your mom know that as well. With the furniture you should tell her this is what I want period and explain to her how it would be more useful for you and in the future will save you money (because nobody knows what the future will bring financially). If she stills gets you the other stuff than just take it back and exchange it for the stuff you wanted. Her feelings might be hurt but its your child you need to do what you want to do period. If you don't than you'll regret it in the future.

The food pyramid is horrible. Seriously, 6-11 servings of freakin carbs?

Eat tons of vegetables and protein. Cut out carbs and fruit (except a bit of blueberries) and desserts and all that crap. Just do lean protein (egg whites, chicken, salmon) and TONS of vegetables. And take some fish oil for super healthy fats. Get your heart rate up for 30 minutes every day, and lift some weights (look up on youtube the proper form for whatever exercises you do, otherwise you'll probably injure yourself). Seriously, 30 minutes, every day. Do it. Or 20 minutes of high intensity interval training (sprint one minute, walk or jog three minutes, repeat. only do this 2-3 times per week though).

Good food list:
Oatmeal (add splenda to make it eatable)
Egg whites (add salsa or something)
Vegetables, tons and tons of them, and don't dip them in stuff. Just add some salsa and chow em down. And not too many carrots, they have a lot of sugar.
Chicken breast, eat this like crazy
Salmon
Tuna
Brown rice
Fish oil pills

It sucks at first but think about it, food is made for nourishment, it isn't supposed to taste as good as all the food companies have forced it to taste with their chemical engineering processes. Once humans realize this and go back to being natural, everyone will look sooo much freakin better than they do.

I'm sure that people may think of me as selfish, too, however, it doesn't make sense to have our government place the burdens of their self-absorbed idealism on the backs of American Taxpayers.
I'm with you, there may be a time when help is needed, but too many people have used a temporary solution, such as, Food Stamps and other Assistance Programs, and use these means as a permanent way of life. I really don't care if people think of me as being selfish, but the ones who are really selfish are those without pride, the absolute dregs of our society, who continue their existence by leeching off honest hardworking Americans.

Reform Is Necessary!
If the government had any sense they would not allow for people to become permanently dependent on such welfare programs, because this would allow working ethics to suffer. A good start would be for the government to implement limitation statutes on "all" welfare assistance and/or entitlement programs. For example, a person who is eligible can only receive such benefits for a maximum of 6 months, in a 5 year cycle, starting from the date they first became eligible. This would be more than enough time needed to find a job. It would be possible to qualify for an additional 6-months benefits, however, these instances are rare, and only allowed under extreme circumstances and must be repaid in full within 1 year after the date that the last payment of loan benefits are received, and is subject to payroll deductions.

When I fed Purina, Pedigree, and O'l Roy to my dogs, both had a bad coat, bad stools, and less energy. Cheap food caused my Dachshund to have epilepsy and terrible allergies. When we got a high quality food, both of their coats shined, they had good stool, and added energy. Lady's epilepsy was totally gone and her allergies improved. Lady now eats a raw diet and her allergies are completely gone, she doesn't have a doggy smell, and her teeth are getting whiter.

When a dog survives that long on a bad food all I think is "wow that was a genetically healthy dog and I wonder how much longer it could have lived if on a better food" When thinking of the pets that live long on those terrible diets I think I bet their quality of life would have been much better if they had been on a good diet.

BTW it is cheaper to pay for a high quality food, the dog doesn't eat as much so you have to get food less often.

Ir depends on what the contract says – andd fitness centers are notoriously slippery with their contracts. You might want to have a lawyer look over the contract. If the contract says the membership included the $50 per month for gas and groceries, you should be able to get out of this or at least get your monthly payment reduced to the $9. If that part was verbal and not in the contract, you're stuck for it.

I think it's good that you're transferring to another college in the fall, if you weren't I'd be worried, that way you won't have to deal with your mum for the rest of your life. For the time being, I think you've just got to suck it up, I know it might kill you and you might hate it but just block her out and stay away from her as much as you can. You're doing good, I know how mom's can be, if you think it will help give her a serious talking to and tell her that her words effect you, but if not avoid her as much as possible and tell her a million times you're going back to school in the fall. You could an apple (or other fruit), low fat yogurt, and some whole grain cereal for breakfast. Maybe add something else like low fat omega 3 poached eggs. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It's a good idea to eat a healthy and complete breakfast, because it keeps you fuller throughout the day, so you don't feeling like eating so much later on.

You could also drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water (or more) each day, which will help keep you full.

Your lunch sounds excellent. You could try whole wheat bread if you don't do that already. That would help a little.

Eating unhealthy one day a week wouldn't be too bad, but it might set you back some. You ever had a veggie burger? Like a soy type burger? They're not too bad, but not sure if that's available to you. Anyway, you could also not eat after 6pm or 7pm. That would help as well.

The regular iced coffee version of Starbucks Via does NOT have any sort of chocolate in it. It has pure cane sugar to give it a slightly sweet taste when mixed. The hot varieties of the Vias also do not have chocolate/cocoa flavor, and they don't have sugar either.

The iced one has more of a medium body and isn't really as strong as a lot of the more robust blends out there. I think its meant to appeal to the average iced coffee drinker, thus not too strong. The regular hot Vias can be made as iced also, though. The coffee is so finely ground that they dissolve perfectly in even cold water. You don't get the larger serving, but there are more flavor options at least.

I was a bit skeptical of the Vias at first, but after a bit of experimenting I have really started to like them. They are a huge time and money saver. I can make them at home in two minutes, without having to drive and wait in line at Starbucks and they cost a fraction of what an actual coffee would cost at the store.

In fact, I scored a bunch of $2 off Via coupons that I have been using for the last several months. I can manage two (sometimes three) servings from 1 packet. They come 6 to a box, so that works out to be like 39 cents per serving. Sure, its not quite as good as one of those fancy $5 iced espresso drinks at an actual Starbucks but, its by far the best instant iced coffee I've ever had and a worthy substitute.

the stimulus was signed on the 17th.. 3 days ago. Not enough time to create the kind of financial crisis in this story. The republicans will have you believe that it's the end of the world because instead of the stimulus money going to big rich companies it is going to cities and states to rebuild roads and fix schools and help healthcare. This will create jobs for the millions of unemployed. You'll see those food bank lines go down in good time.

As others said, Starbucks coffee is too strong, few people use coffee makers and Starbucks is really common in the bigger cities in Korea. Taster's Choice is the prefered brand to bring as a gift.

Lots of things figure in to an animal's life span- genetics, preexisting conditions, the animal's general living conditions (ex, a house dog tends to live much longer than one that's kept outside all the time.) and the animal's general physical condition (overweight? too thin?) to name a few. Animals who are fed a good quality food are generally healthier than animals who are fed "junk." But a dog who, say, is genetically predisposed to cancer and whose owner keeps it twenty pounds overweight is not likely to live as long as a dog with a good genetic background whose owner exercises it daily and is a healthy weight.
