I totally understand how you & your husband feel, in fact, my Wife and I feel the same way. It's amazing all that is offered for free, nowadays.

I'm sure that people may think of me as selfish, too, however, it doesn't make sense to have our government place the burdens of their self-absorbed idealism on the backs of American Taxpayers.
I'm with you, there may be a time when help is needed, but too many people have used a temporary solution, such as, Food Stamps and other Assistance Programs, and use these means as a permanent way of life. I really don't care if people think of me as being selfish, but the ones who are really selfish are those without pride, the absolute dregs of our society, who continue their existence by leeching off honest hardworking Americans.

Reform Is Necessary!
If the government had any sense they would not allow for people to become permanently dependent on such welfare programs, because this would allow working ethics to suffer. A good start would be for the government to implement limitation statutes on "all" welfare assistance and/or entitlement programs. For example, a person who is eligible can only receive such benefits for a maximum of 6 months, in a 5 year cycle, starting from the date they first became eligible. This would be more than enough time needed to find a job. It would be possible to qualify for an additional 6-months benefits, however, these instances are rare, and only allowed under extreme circumstances and must be repaid in full within 1 year after the date that the last payment of loan benefits are received, and is subject to payroll deductions.

Stop the Madness of Government Spending & Government Handouts!

I’m a mom. I’m proud of my kids. I try not to talk about them non-stop, but sometimes I just gotta let the super-proud soccer-mom out. So, I will do just that in this post and spare you multiple “my kids are awesome” posts. [1] Asher started counting to 9 randomly last week (or maybe the week before?). He quickly realized that he was missing 10 and added that on. Well, yesterday he counted only to 9. I asked him, “Where’s 10?” So he counted to 8. I then asked him “Where’s 9 and 10?” So he counted to 7 and I asked where’s 8, 9 and 10?” We did this down to 5 – because I hate asking the same thing over and over and over. I just thought it was pretty cool that my 2.5 year old who just figured out how to count could sort of count backward. [2] In going with the counting theme, Asher gets 3 chocolate chips – when he asks for them – after he goes on the potty. We started this to encourage him to use the potty and now that he’s trained, we stopped automatically giving it to him and waiting…

The answer to your question is yes.
It started in the 60's when the government started escalating welfare. It was (in my opinion) to keep poor mainly black people on welfare (free money), thus to protect their welfare the black people would vote democrat. Before that blacks voted republican, MLK was a republican. It was the democrats who kept James M from going to "white college" and it was Ike a REP who sent US marshals to protect him.
The Dem keep promising more but in reality they keep poor people on welfare and thus also their votes.
How well had it worked out for the voters? They are still poor by our standards (yet compared to the rest of the world they would be consider rich).
ACORN and other like organization try to get people to get on welfare to break the system so we will go bankrupt.
That is the "CHANGE" the American voted for most without realizing the significance of Obama's involvement with ACORN, Laskey (communist) and other radical groups and individuals.

I read this in the American Mathematics Monthly, I cannot give credit to the person who supplied it, and I have changed it slightly, but (in radians)
pi = 3 + sin(3)

This continues pi = 3 + sin(3) + sin(3 + sin(3)), etc.

2)
pi = 10^.5 = 3.162 (ancient- I think Babyloneans)

3)
pi = 2^.5 + 3^.5 = 3.1462

I hated A & P. We went to Associated. Locally owned franchise.

Now, there are two Walmarts in my zipcode. I go there for my gun supplies but, I go to Wegmans for my food.
Why? Walmart is not bad but, Wegmans is better. Why?
Walmart maybe cheaper but, Wegmans offers better value.
For some items, like sundries, electronic and meat, Costco beats them both for value. So, I get my meat, electronics and sundries from Costco.

Searching for best value will regulate large and small companies all by itself. No government needed.

My answer at the time was the best I could do, but I wasn't satisfied with it. For the longest time, I've kept this one in the back of my mind, telling myself that I need to have another, serious look at this. It seems totally improbable to me, and yet I can't quite rule it out either. I think of all the ways to "compute pi", this one wins as the most far-fetched one, if true. But is it? Well considering I wasn't born then, I can't really forget what I never knew. There is an A & P near me, it's dirty and disgusting.

I mean these are completely different times and the two stores aren't really comparable logically.

Edit: You can't compare a grocery chain 60 years to Wal-Mart today it is a completely different situation. 60 years ago goods were still made in the US, food was more wholesome, it wasn't mass produced to maximize profit. Wal-Mart isn't just a grocery store, they are a monolithic beast that destroys the tax base of every town they descend on. They are offer low paying jobs with no benefits peddling crap Chinese merchandise that may or may not kill you, dependent on whether a recall of a product is more cost effective than paying hush money in the event of a death.

Here we are coming up against 'standard practice usage' versus 'logical, pedantic usage.'

Logically, one answers "No, I would not not like free groceries (=Yes I would like free groceries. Two negatives make a positive.)

Now, in common standard usage, one answers (as the other person said about the "Won't you sit down?" ): "Yes thanks."

Now, do not get in a tizzy. It is just the difference between normal (incorrect) USAGE and pedantic, 'get-on-your-nerves' stuffy correctness people.

Say "Yes, and where do I sign up?!!" Then tell them you do not want any advertising in the mail or on the email. Give them a false address even!

Good question.

When I fed Purina, Pedigree, and O'l Roy to my dogs, both had a bad coat, bad stools, and less energy. Cheap food caused my Dachshund to have epilepsy and terrible allergies. When we got a high quality food, both of their coats shined, they had good stool, and added energy. Lady's epilepsy was totally gone and her allergies improved. Lady now eats a raw diet and her allergies are completely gone, she doesn't have a doggy smell, and her teeth are getting whiter.

When a dog survives that long on a bad food all I think is "wow that was a genetically healthy dog and I wonder how much longer it could have lived if on a better food" When thinking of the pets that live long on those terrible diets I think I bet their quality of life would have been much better if they had been on a good diet.

BTW it is cheaper to pay for a high quality food, the dog doesn't eat as much so you have to get food less often.

Well, is everyone who is working on this bill working for free? They have to be if there is to be no more added to the deficit, right? We are spending money on a reform plan that may not even pass. More wasted time and wasted dollars. What's worse is that the bill is so long, nobody knows what it actually says, they don't want to take the time to read and understand. Just skim through and vote. What a joke our system has become. We need some good ol GOVERNMENT REFORM.

You can't change your mom, but you can change YOU.

It's your choice. Compromise with her, or leave, come up with some peaceful compromise. Do the best you can. Easily said but it works ALL THE TIME.

Foods that are in a class of carbohydrates (eg complex, starches) that don't get absorbed (ie. get into the blood stream) as quickly as foods with a higher glycemic index.(eg. simple sugars).

Sorry, misread the question.. Wheat bread beats white (but not by much).

I would also include a small tube of toothpaste, toothbrush, tylenol, and other small toiletries for out of town guests in case they forgot such basic items. This would save them time and money not to have to run to a pharmacy or walmart to buy things they forgot to bring.

have you looked at destinationwedding.com? they have a million threads on OOT bags..and personal reports on what was useful and what wasnt. eg if its abroad, some people have a list of useful sayigns/words that could help when theyre there, even if staff speak english

some people like to include a hangover kit (alka selzter, pepto bismol or rehydration sachet)

you know what i love but cant do since i dont live in US – the personalised M&Ms. its good chocolate and you can put either a photo (faces close up) or a message on them. actually i think they might be quite expensive though

imt hinking about doing the same thing…but i have more time as my wedding isnt for a while. good luck!!

but seriously check out the website, its pretty awesome x
also include a "things to do" list of attractions/activities near your destination, it can help guests loads

ooh and cards can be a great gift (you get the front card saying your wedding and date). its not an edible thing..but a lot of people use it AND its kind of related to las vegas (er vaguely…with casinos and stuff. im sorry, im english so im not very experienced with las vegas stuff)

edit – with absolutely no disrespect intended to the other posters..the majority of people go on holiday with toothpaste. granted, 1 or 2 people *may* forget it, but the majority will look at it and just be like "er great, thanks! toothpaste…awesome gift" i think you can assume adults will bring toothpaste and soap by themselves

I hear what you are saying…all of my mom's dogs eat Walmart Special Kitty cat Food and Purina Cat Food, Alley Cat…foods like that and she has two 19 year old cats and one 18 year old cat. One of their dogs lived to be 21 and he ate the bottom of the line dog food all his life.

I'm not knocking those that spend a fortune on pet foods. Too each their own. I do know that I was feeding top of the line cat food and one of my siamese kept getting UTI's. I went back to Purina and he hasn't had one since.

To each their own though. I won't knock what the so called experts on here feed their cats and dogs and I think I deserve the same respect.

You've got your priorities mixed up if you let TWO female students get away just to count π in your breakfast! (ha)

However, you might want to check out "Pi in the Sky" at:

Have a good day!

I think I can explain why the two females departed so quickly. To the vast majority of the population doing mathematics is perhaps necessary but very unenjoyable. To a few of us it is unnecessary but very enjoyable and therefore we appear weird. They decided that they had met a weirdo!

How about those little foam adhesive cushions/pads you stick under appliances? (The ones that you peel off and stick)
Tiny buttons?
Clay?
Glue mixed with paint? (really works, and gives a somewhat raised appearance)
Craft foam punched with a hole punch sounds like your best bet, though. :)
